From awakening to the value of pig's blood, to reconstructing the beef supply chain with "electromagnetic massage": a veteran ingredient expert's 25-year journey.

I've been selling beef for 25 years. Why do customers choose Dongchu over others?
Hello, I'm Wen Yaojian, founder of Hunan Dongchu Food Technology Co., Ltd. On the meat supply chain journey, I've walked this path for 25 years.
Many ask me: "Old Wen, you sell beef, others do too. Why do customers choose you over them?"
Today, I'm sharing my deepest thoughts in one go — my answer lies in 25 years of industry experience, in the countless moments of awe I've witnessed firsthand, and in my unwavering belief that science and technology transform the value of food.
1. Enlightenment: The night that changed my destiny, where I discovered scientific inquiry in pig's blood.
The story begins not with beef, but with pork blood.
In 2007, I accompanied the Group CEO through the entire acquisition negotiation at Hepar in Shenzhen. At the time, I learned that a pig's small intestine fetched only up to 20 per unit at the bidding stage, yet after being refined through biotechnology and injected into the human body, its value skyrocketed to 2000. That "turning stone to gold" transformation deeply moved me. This experience was like a key that unlocked my desire for the power of science and technology.
But what truly left me speechless and changed my perspective was a late-night market visit in 2009. Accompanied by a driver, I toured a small slaughterhouse in Yueyang and was struck again. I witnessed how pig blood from the same animal—previously unseen by us—was graded and processed. In our understanding, the highest value was 5 yuan per head; yet here, standard products fetched 60 yuan per head, while high-value items even reached tiered prices of 800, 1200, and 2000 yuan per head. I stood there, mouth agape, utterly stunned.
In that moment, I realized the slaughter industry appears to have no barriers to entry but is actually at the bottom of the value chain. I also recognized that my "one knife, one pot" low-barrier model in traditional slaughtering for 10 years—even with its evolution into modern methods—has no future. High risk, high costs, low profits, and extreme reliance on information asymmetry drove me to escape and make a bold career move in 2010 to join the imported beef trading sector.
II. Challenges: Prolonged Product Lifecycles and an Outdated Supply Chain
Entering the beef industry, I found it to be an exceptionally unique sector, fraught with even greater challenges. Domestic cattle farming is largely dominated by individual operators, lacking the standardized corporate structures seen in publicly traded companies. More critically, there are biological bottlenecks: a cow typically produces 2 calves every three years, with just one calf per birth. Combined with a nine-month gestation and a minimum two-year fattening period, a single cow's lifecycle extends to 5 years.
Long cycles mean high risk. Yet the public's pursuit of a better life is unstoppable: demand for red meat keeps rising annually. Meanwhile, China faces scarce natural pastures, lagging infrastructure, and soaring breeding costs—yet no true listed company exists along the entire supply chain; it remains fragmented with small operators and regional leaders. I believe imported beef is the future. But one conviction has driven me all along: Can technology break this cycle of long-term bottlenecks?
III. Breaking Through: 7 Years of "Archaeology" to Give Beef a Full SPA
Choosing imported beef? That's the right call.
But being a mere搬运工 is far from my destination.
Since then, my hobby has become incredibly "hardcore." Like a detective, I've navigated through Wanfang, CNKI, and dozens of university digital libraries—my favorite hunting ground. Driven by a desire to leave the pork industry behind and fueled by curiosity in science and technology, I embarked on 7 years of intense learning and research focused on "empowering ingredients with technology." Through forward searches, backward deduction, deliberate deep dives, and keen observation at various trade shows, I compiled nearly 5000 technical documents covering patents, journal articles, academic papers, photos, videos, contracts, and more.
I'm waiting for the right opportunity to monetize this knowledge.
A turning point came in 2017. A key figure emerged: Huang Wu, former Director of the Technical Department at the Hunan Provincial Earthquake Agency, who left government service. A physics graduate from Beijing Institute of Technology and a top-scoring student in math, physics, and chemistry during his college entrance exams, he is a returnee from Canada, certified as a Senior Chief Engineer by the Hunan Provincial Bureau of Foreign Experts, and serves on the technical review and evaluation expert panel of the Changsha Science and Technology Bureau. For his entire career, he studied electric and magnetic field variations in underground geological physics at depths of 500 to 4000 meters. I quickly recognized a cross-industry opportunity: if we can detect what's beneath the earth, why not "detect" meat cells?
I entrust this 7-year legacy to him, guiding the shift from "downward archaeology" to "upward empowerment" in electromagnetic archaeology. What we aim to do is give meat a "Korean-style electromagnetic sauna." Through electromagnetic massage, we awaken dormant cells. My goal is to use an electromagnetic field to gently "Korean-style steam bath" frozen meat, perform cell-level "electromagnetic massage," and bring it back to life.
He understands technology; I understand the industry. He has the theory; I have the use cases. Our ideas aligned instantly.
We immediately purchased extensive lab equipment. Instead of building a comfortable office, we moved directly into our clients' factories. On-site, we ran experiments while comparing data, using real-world data to continuously evolve and refine our approach.
After a year of refinement, in 2017 12, we delivered the first prototype to our customer at little to no cost. Three months later, after the customer was satisfied with its performance, we signed and successfully fulfilled our first formal commercial contract in 2018 3.
The "High-Voltage Electrostatic Ion Flow Eco-Friendly Thawing and Preservation Cold Storage/Equipment" is now officially available.
4. Empowerment: Selling Beef and the "Shovel" and Systems That Know It Best
What pain points does our device solve?
Rapid bulk thawing: Fast batch inbound the afternoon before, ready for pickup the next morning.
High color fidelity: Flesh tone accuracy reaches 99%, closely replicating the appearance of fresh produce with vibrant red meat and juicy texture, comparable to cold-chain freshness.
Minimal loss: Little juice leakage preserves original flavor.
Smart Operation: Fully automatic process adjustment for sterilization and freshness preservation.
As shown in the images, the usage reports and payment records from our partners—including Chisongting Food, Hengchu Food, Zhangzhongshao Food, and Guangdong Wen's Food (subsidiaries of Keming Flour)—demonstrate the success of our technology commercialization. At the time, competing projects were quoted at approximately 40K. Despite market pressure, we charged only 9.9K and offered installment payments with a performance guarantee: if the tool fails to deliver results, you pay nothing for the remaining balance. Our logic is simple: build high-value tools that help customers succeed first.
But the thawing equipment is just a tool. What we do is empower our clients' systems and help them monetize their products. With the equipment business firmly established, I devoted myself to building a distribution system: launching the "Dongchu Food Marketing Platform" app and rolling out a three-pronged WeChat mini-program matrix.
Dongchu Selection and Dongchu Beef Lifestyle: Focused on personal services.
Dongchu Beef Ingredients: Empowering B2B Catering Clients.
We have developed a unique dual-drive model combining "beef supply chain + equipment services." We provide slaughterhouses, ready-to-cook food factories, and braised product processors with premium beef sourced globally, while also delivering the essential tools for thawing, rehydration, and preservation.
V. Outlook: Beyond the Product, Reshaping Connections
At the end of 2025, I stepped beyond the "selling beef" mindset to view my product, customers, and industry through the lenses of media communication, value delivery, and trust building. We are officially launching the "Dongchu Beef Media Alliance," ushering in a new phase of self-media operations. Leveraging over 20 years of industry expertise, I will reevaluate our products and value from a media communication perspective.
Why do customers choose you over others when buying beef?
My answer is simple:
Others sell meat. We deliver 25 years of industry expertise, cutting-edge technology, and end-to-end solutions.
While others compete on price, we compete on quality stability, lower waste, better color, and more reliable service.
Others do one-off deals. We build long-term partnerships, grow together, and share value.
I'm Wen Yaojian, based in Changsha. I work with beef, technology, and long-term thinking.
